“Nature is painting for us, day after day, pictures of infinite beauty.”

AboutAbout Green Thumb

K. Parrent Gardening

Welcome to Green Thumb to the Rescue's site. My goal is to focus on both the “green thumb” and the “rescue.” You will find gardening information and ways to rescue the Earth and its creatures from the threats we all face. I hope to inform, entertain, promote discussion and prompt you to action. I believe that appreciating the beauty of nature will inspire us to save it. I hope this page will serve in some small part to achieve that goal.

As an amateur photographer, I love to capture color and design and beauty in photos. I’ve been told that some of my pictures are quite good so I am creating a sort of vanity page to display my own best photos! (Other photographers should keep sending their work to my Facebook page.)

If you are interested in writing a review or essay, you can contact me via the site or otherwise propose your idea to me. I can assign a book to review or you can suggest one to me. Readers can easily purchase books reviewed here from a link to Iocal Indie bookstores - rather than buying from the behemoth! See the essay by Barbara Racine for why we believe that matters.

Elton parrent 1934Young farmer Elton Parrent, Campbell, Missouri, 1934.

I dedicate this page to my father, Elton “Pat” Parrent, who grew up picking cotton in the south and in his final years created his own garden paradise in our Detroit suburb. He could grow anything and fix anything. He was also hard-working and loving, all the qualities of a good gardener and father. My sister and I are indebted to him for our curiosity and impulse to create.
